Waiting for August

This winter, Georgiana Halmac is about to celebrate her 15th birthday, but her teenage aspirations are put on hold when her unemployed mother relocates to Torino in search of work. Left to care for her six younger siblings in a social housing complex on the outskirts of Bacau, Romania, Georgiana finds herself straddling the line between youth and the demands of adulthood. She navigates her new role by piecing together parenting tips from TV shows and occasional phone conversations with her mother. While managing her own personal challenges and high school dilemmas, Georgiana also faces the scrutiny of disapproving neighbors who threaten to report the family to social services.
