SURGE is a documentary film that chronicles the unprecedented wave of first-time female candidates who participated in and transformed the political landscape during the landmark 2018 midterm elections. The film tracks the journeys of three candidates from Texas, Indiana, and Illinois, each striving to turn their Republican districts Democratic. Among them is Lauren Underwood, who made history as the youngest Black woman elected to Congress. A licensed nurse and public health specialist, Lauren is now actively engaged in advocating for COVID-19 relief as a new member of Congress.
