Drawing inspiration from Sheridan LeFanu’s classic 19th-century vampire story, “Carmilla,” the film “STYRIA” immerses the audience in a world filled with fantasy and obsession. Set in 1989, the story follows Lara Hill (played by Eleanor Tomlinson) as she travels with her art historian father (Stephen Rea) to a deserted castle beyond the Iron Curtain. After a car accident near the castle, the enigmatic and alluring Carmilla appears. Lara secretly brings Carmilla into the castle, and the two form a captivating bond. However, when Carmilla vanishes without a trace and local women start taking their own lives, Lara’s psychological scars manifest into a terrifying reality that engulfs the entire town of Styria.
