In the year 2033, individuals approaching the end of their lives have the option to be “uploaded” into virtual reality hotels managed by six technology companies. Nora, who is financially struggling, resides in Brooklyn and is employed in customer service for the opulent digital afterlife known as “Lakeview.” After Nathan, a party-loving coder from Los Angeles, experiences a crash in his autonomous vehicle, his demanding girlfriend decides to upload him permanently into the virtual realm where Nora works.
