Taking place in Lincolnshire in 1996, the series unfolds the poignant yet comedic tale of Rae, a deeply troubled teenager. Having recently been discharged from a psychiatric hospital following a four-month stay due to a suicide attempt, Rae starts to reestablish her bond with her best friend Chloe and her circle of friends. Unbeknownst to them, Rae struggles with mental health and body image issues, as they have been led to believe she was in France during her absence.
