Charlie Fitzpatrick holds the title of the most accomplished high school basketball coach in Georgia’s history. While many of his athletes regard him as a father figure, his own relationship with his academically inclined son, Evan, is tense. With encouragement from his wife, Laura, and Evan’s wife, Heather, Charlie decides that the best way to connect with Evan and his grandson, Markie—who has recently decided to leave college to tour with his folk band—is to take them on a weekend getaway to a rustic mountain cabin. This cabin is the same location where Charlie used to challenge his championship teams with a demanding military-style obstacle course, one that Evan never had the opportunity to complete during his school years. For Charlie, this retreat is a form of enjoyment, for Evan, it’s a dreaded experience, and for Markie, who is young and idealistic, it’s simply an adventure he’s willing to embrace.
