Vittorio Zemeli, a man nearing 60, resides in an apartment within a drab building located in a monotonous European city center, bisected by a river. He leads a solitary existence, with the television perpetually on to keep him company. One evening, much like any other, while having his meal, Vittorio notices an actor on TV who looks exactly like him. The TV doppelgänger ends his own life. The following day, Vittorio feels uneasy as he heads to work. Unexpectedly, three friends whisk him away to a well-known local restaurant for a birthday celebration. However, the return journey home will prove to be unforgettable for him.
