In the Nevada desert, the film “Drones” kicks off with newcomer Sue Lawson teaming up with airman Jack in a sweltering, enclosed bunker. From this base, they remotely pilot drones over the Afghan landscape. Their initial day on the job is marked by a courteous yet uneasy atmosphere, as Jack is keenly conscious of Sue’s advantageous position as the daughter of a highly esteemed general. However, this mission is far from routine: as they focus on a suspect without weapons, a clash of authority unfolds between the intelligent and refined Sue and the determined, working-class Jack.
