While covering the papal election in Rome, Gregory, a staunchly atheistic journalist, unexpectedly finds himself enamored with Maria, a woman on the verge of taking her vows as a nun, thus dedicating her life to God. As Gregory attempts to pursue Maria, he encounters a series of enigmatic challenges. He soon realizes that he is up against a supernatural rival.
