“Breakthrough” chronicles the journey of a maverick scientist determined to discover a cure for cancer, the illness that claimed his mother’s life. Jim Allison, a Texan, was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2018 for his groundbreaking work in activating a cancer patient’s immune system to combat the disease.
