Bernard and Doris

This film offers a compassionate portrayal inspired by the bond between tobacco heiress Doris Duke and her reserved butler, Bernard Lafferty. Known for her unpredictable nature, Duke dismisses her previous butler over a chilled cantaloupe, leading the agency to send Lafferty, who has previously worked for Liz Taylor and Peggy Lee. Recently out of rehab, Lafferty is an alcoholic who slowly becomes Duke’s gay confidant. As Duke navigates life with youthful lovers, makes quick, astute decisions, and oversees her wealth and orchids, Lafferty takes care of her New Jersey estate. However, with a tempting wine cellar at his disposal, Bernard relapses. Will he be able to regain control when Doris truly needs his support?
