On New Year’s Eve, the staff at an Economics Institute are all set to present their yearly entertainment show, featuring a lively mix of dance, song, a jazz band, and even some magic acts. However, the mood shifts when it’s announced that a new director has been appointed and is on his way. Comrade Ogurtsov arrives just in time to critique and reject the planned festivities. His idea of holiday celebration involves formal speeches highlighting the Institute’s achievements over the past year, accompanied by a touch of serious classical music performed by the Veterans’ Orchestra. Naturally, no one is keen on overhauling the program mere hours before it begins, especially not for something so dull. The staff must now collaborate to keep Ogurtsov from reaching the stage. While some distract him, others carry on with their performances, ensuring the New Year’s Eve celebration goes on as planned.
