Heartbreakers Beach Party
In 2024, the long-lost 16mm footage of Tom Petty in Cameron Crowe’s debut film, “Heartbreakers Beach Party,” was finally rediscovered. This iconic documentary from the 1980s showcases Tom Petty and his band during the years 1982-1983 as they complete, promote, and tour for the “Long After Dark” album, their last collaboration with the renowned producer Jimmy Iovine. After its premiere on MTV in 1983, the film was considered too avant-garde and was swiftly removed from broadcast. Over the ensuing four decades, it has achieved legendary status among fans, musicians, and the entertainment industry, even being credited with influencing scenes in “Spinal Tap.”
